I've been photographing railways since the early 90's when I was given my first SLR in the form of a Canon EOS 1000FN. Unfortunately as privatisation took hold in the mid to late 90's I lost my interest and sadly during a house move I inadvertently disposed of all my photo's and negatives among which were some real gems.
I rekindled my interest again in April 2004 when I bought a new camera. I've just caught the demise of the Class 47 on most passenger and freight work and was surprised to learn of the demise of the Class 56, even more so at the demise of the Class 58.
The hobby is very different to the one of 10 years ago, the postal trains have all but disappeared along with the 47 hauled Intercity XC services that were once taken for granted, now in the hands of Virgin Voyagers. As for the 'GM invasion' its very sad that a country once at the forefront of locomotive design and build now buys locomotives built in Canada and Spain from an American company.
Apart from the 35mm scans all the images were taken using a Canon EOS 300D or Canon EOS 20D with either a Tamron 28-75 XR Di f2.8, Canon 24-70L f2.8 or Canon 75-300mm f4 USM II.
I hope you take the time to look through some of my photo's and I hope you enjoy, if you have any comments, suggestions or feed back please hit the contact tab on the menu. It is a work in progress and hopefully will expand as the weather permits.
Thanks for visiting.
